Embodied Presence:

Zjamal Xanitha | Brisbane

Part 1: 29 February & 1 March 2020

This workshop is in two parts, over four days and will introduce the important role of embodied presence both for living and for being a therapist.

This workshop emphasises and deepens embodied experience as a primary way of knowing. Participants will be supported to attune and attend to their body process, becoming more sensitive to their own body’s structures, shapes, rhythms and textures.

We will experience how our embodied self is what creates authentic presence. We will cultivate a sophisticated level of embodiment, and through specific somatic modalities discover how deeply intelligent and responsive our bodies are in interaction. We will explore observing, facilitating, witnessing and resonating as embodied skills, and look diagnostically at the organisation of systems within a person. We will enrich the repertoire of how we make contact by embracing the many textures and rhythms of our different functional systems. The work is a synthesis of Gestalt, Somatic Practices, and Relational approaches. It draws upon the philosophical legacy of Phenomenology and the advances in Neurobiology that have influenced contemporary psychotherapy practice. The physiological knowledge is based in somatic movement education from worldwide leaders in the field.

Participant Outcomes

Participants will:

  • deepen proprioception, interoception, and neuroception, body based awareness through hands on work, and inner sensing
  • develop body reading and body tracking skills
  • have a sense of their own and other’s personal alignment and habitual holding patterns
  • engage in and explore different body systems and experience their support in our sequencing of emotive states
  • tune in to the emotional tone of sensation and the physiological signature of the primary emotions
  • try somatic interventions and hands on work with one another that can be applied in their own practice
  • balance sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems states for emergent process, find relaxed alertness, learn active and receptive restoration of traumatised responses
