Gestalt Therapy Brisbane (GTB) was founded on collaboration, vision, and the legacy of two pioneering institutes: the Gestalt Association of Queensland Inc. and the Brisbane Gestalt Institute.
The Brisbane Gestalt Centre, established in 1980 by Yaro Starak, evolved with Maria Vogt into the Brisbane Gestalt Institute. The Gestalt Therapy and Training Centre, founded by Mac Hamilton in 1991, became the Gestalt Association of Queensland Inc. in 1997, offering accredited Graduate and Master programs.
In 2008, these two institutes merged under the leadership of Maria Vogt and Dr Greer White, forming Gestalt Therapy Brisbane Pty Ltd. Maria and Greer met weekly for almost a year, shaping a curriculum that combined the best of both institutes, grounded in creativity, rigor, and community connection.
Maria passed away in 2010, and her vision, warmth, and collaborative spirit continue to be deeply missed and honoured within our community. Her legacy lives on in the work and culture of GTB, inspiring students, staff, and graduates alike.
Since the merger, GTB has grown significantly. It gained TEQSA accreditation to deliver the Master of Gestalt Therapy and Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy, alongside professional recognition from PACFA.
Today, GTB’s Managing Director, Tine Mueller, leads a dedicated team from our West End, Brisbane campus, committed to training therapists who are skilled, reflective, and connected to the wider community.
