Overview

Gestalt Therapy Brisbane (GTB) has established a recognised pathway for PhD study in collaboration with Griffith University for graduates of the Master of Gestalt Therapy program. This pathway enables qualified Gestalt practitioners to pursue doctoral research that contributes original knowledge in psychotherapy, clinical practice, theory, or related areas.

Why Consider a PhD?

A PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the highest academic qualification awarded by universities and is ideal for those who want to:

  • Develop advanced research expertise in Gestalt therapy or related psychological fields.
  • Contribute original knowledge to theory, practice, or training in psychotherapy.
  • Pursue academic, clinical research, teaching, or policy work in higher education, healthcare, or professional associations.

How the Pathway Works

The pathway builds on the Master of Gestalt Therapy offered by Gestalt Therapy Brisbane, which is a comprehensive four-year program that equips graduates with extensive theoretical and clinical skills in Gestalt psychotherapy.

After successful completion of the Master of Gestalt Therapy, graduates may be eligible to apply for PhD admission at Griffith University, where the understanding between GTB and Griffith University supports entry into doctoral research. This is currently an active pathway and prospective doctoral candidates are encouraged to discuss opportunities with GTB staff.
